چکیده

Two novel superelastic Ti-41Zr-8(10)Nb alloys were studied and compared to the reference Ti-18Zr-15Nb alloy (all in at. %) terms of their microstructure mechanical properties. A thermomechanical treatment consisting cold rolling post-deformation annealing was applied all create conditions for behavior at room temperature. X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrated considerably larger lattice distortions both parent martensitic phases Zr-rich that resulted significantly higher theoretical limits recovery strain these (~ 8.0%) as 5.5%). However, during temperature fatigue testing, accumulated considerable residual strains showed a relatively weak resistance caused by presence notable quantities α″-phase this Conversely, containing only β-phase testing therefore, more favorable phase composition manifested better superelasticy, resistance. Nonetheless, an excellent combined effect shape memory superelasticity indicates could be improved via additional adjustment chemical composition.

TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF Ti-Si-Zr ALLOYS

Nowadays titanium alloys are extensively used for aerospace and biomedical applications. However, despite good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance they possess poor wear resistance and a tendency to galling and seizure. In this study the tribological properties of experimental Ti-Si-Zr based alloys were studied using a standard ball-on-disc wear testing system. The wear and...

Slip Resistance of Ti-Based High-Temperature Shape Memory Alloys

Titanium with Nb, Zr, and Ta alloying substitutions possesses high plastic slip resistance and high transformation strains upon bcc (b) to orthorhombic ða00Þ transformation. In the current study, we determine the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) for slip in Ti alloyed for a wide composition range of Nb, Ta, and Zr. The CRSS is obtained with a proposed Peierls–Nabarro formalism incorporatin...

Design and development of novel antibacterial Ti-Ni-Cu shape memory alloys for biomedical application

In the case of medical implants, foreign materials are preferential sites for bacterial adhesion and microbial contamination, which can lead to the development of prosthetic infections. Commercially biomedical TiNi shape memory alloys are the most commonly used materials for permanent implants in contact with bone and dental, and the prevention of infections of TiNi biomedical shape memory allo...

Internal Friction in Fe-Co-Ni-Ti Shape Memory Alloys

The anomalies of the temperature dependences of the logarithmic decrement and eigen frequency of the free damped vibrations for Fe-Co-Ni-Ti shape memory alloys were first found in the vicinity of the reverse ay martensitic transformation. It was shown the damping capacity in the alloys investigated is comparable with that for TiNi based alloys.

A new look at biomedical Ti-based shape memory alloys.

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are materials that exhibit a distinct thermomechanical coupling, one that gives rise to a wide variety of applications across a broad range of fields. One of the most successful roles is in the construction of novel medical implants. Unfortunately, concerns have been raised about the biocompatibility of the most popular SMA, nitinol (NiTi), due to the known toxic, all...
